Gay Nurses On Organ Donation

Gay Nurses are in Pride Park to talk about organ donations and the surrounding struggle to get people to take a stand in the "donate or not" decision.

Gay Nurses  are in Pride Park for the second consecutive year. This year's focus is on spreading information on organdonation and getting people to decide on wether they want to donate or not. Vice chairperson Mia is familiar with these questions as she herself transplants organs into new bodies.

- Homosexuals tend to think that they are disqualified as organ donors, but that isn't really the case. It's all to do with the way you live. If you are in a monogomous relationship you could definetely be considered for organ donation.

The Swedish Board of Health and Welfare are currently changing parts of the regulations and advice concerning the LGBT community's possibilities to donate organs.

Gay Nurses are focusing on two main areas, the LGBT group of patients and LGBT people within their own profession. Lectures are given at universities and care centres.

Gay Nurses is still quite a new organization but it's growing rapidly. Mia tells us that it's been around since 2008 as an official organization, before that we were more of a social club for people working in health care.
