Birgitta Stenberg not the king inaugurated Pride House
The legendary Birgitta Stenberg cut the ribbon when Pride House was inaugurated on Monday. -It should be the king in the normal case, said Birgitta with a big smile and got applauses from a pepped up public.
Pride house was inaugurated under laughing and expectation to the speech of Birgitta Stenberg, of many years writer and old in LGBT-contexts. She got up on stage to the description “has during more than 50 years personified the Swedish sin”.
-Oh, Birgitta laughs, that I should be able to answer to, but how do you do than?
Birgitta tells that Pride before it was called Pride had the name of the liberation week. This was before 1998, so the history of Pride is just for 10 years.
-Something big has happened, we are in a revolution, both on the gay and womenfield.
To illustrate the difference between now and before Birgitta red out from two of her books. In “Free fall” that she wrote in 1951 she told about one of her girlfriends that she met on Capri. The girlfriend was ashamed for her sexuality so much that she described herself as a sick monster. Fifty years later in the book “All Wild” that Birgitta gave out in 2004 she wrote instead about the beautiful love between herself and her partner. Birgitta belives that the tolerance in the society has gone forward. She is careful with pointing out that it is NOT that we are where we are just because we every day are fighting for it.
The respect and the liking from the public during the fifteen minutes long speech could not be lost. Birgitta was a fantastic inauguration speaker, better than any king.
