Queer tango
Text: Jazz M
Queer tango is a different more interesting kind of Argentinian tango, developed especially for us LGBTQ-people.
The stage is made for those who do not want to follow the gender norms and the positions that are based on them when it comes to dancing. Here, guys can lead and girls can lead, you can dance with a same-sex partner, it welcomes transexuals and it is not gender stereotypical.
Queer tango in Sweden is well developed in Stockholm, where it is based, and has been organized by Charlotte Riviero, or Charlie, as she sometimes calls herself. Besides Stockholm, there are also many places to dance at in for example Uppsala and Lund. Also around the world, especially in Argentinia, there is queer tango. In Argentinia they also have a tradition of guys dancing with guys to tech eachother before they dance with girls. Usually, there is a lack of male abilities, which usually means that the girls will have to dance with girls, something that many of them do not mind. Other than this form of dancing, there is also other forms of queer dancing, dance sport which has been on Let's Dance, Latin American and Ballroom dancing. Unlike queer tango, which is completely improvised, you dance after a decided choreography and you do not only dance socially but also compete in this dance.
Here at Pride you can come to the "dance with a partner"- party at Chicago between 20-01, arranged by Tangoverkstaden and Lambda IF.
