After 15 year old Alex was born her parents decide to leave Buenos for an isolated wooden house on the Uruguayan shoreline. Explores the painful search for gender identity of a teenage who upon entering adolescence and is pressured by parents to "choose" an identity.
In 2007 XXY was chosen to represent Argentina both at the Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film category and at Spain's Goya Awards, for Best Foreign Film in Spanish. It also won the Critics Week Grand Prize at the Cannes film festival.
