Stockholm EuroPride presents Cecilia Malmström, minister for EU Affairs, as the second of three opening speakers.
- Of course I am honored. I am proud to represent a government who wants to be a strong voice for the rights of lgbt-people. I will speak about human rights and that they are universal and that it’s depressing that lgbt-people rights are violated in Europe today, says Cecilia Malmström
Cecilia Malmström was the first Swedish minister who took part in a Pride event in another country, when she participated in a seminar and the parade in Warsaw 2007. She was also active in the EU-parliament’s work group for lgbt-issues, during her time in the EU-parliament.
- We chose Cecilia Malmström because she’s responsible for Sweden’s EU-affairs. We’re interested in how she wants to use the European Union as a tool to secure lgbt-people’s rights, especially in Eastern Europe, says Jonah Nylund, President of Stockholm Pride.
