The Organization´s Solidarity Work
The Stockholm Pride organization wishes to help Pride organizations in other countries to carry out events, and therefore we work with international solidarity.
To have economic funds available for support, we have Stockholm Pride's international solidarity fund since 2006. This fund is based on allocated incomes, such as sales of the Pride song record and sales of photo publishing rights. In addition, there are also donations and some fund from certain fundraisings.
In year of 2008 and 2009, the money was donated to Warsaw Pride in order to support Warsaw in their effort to host EuroPride 2010. The situation for LGBTQ persons in many places in Eastern Europe is still very difficult. By chosing Warsaw as host for the 2010 EuroPride, was the first breakthrough for a major international Pride festival in the former Eastern Europe made.
Stockholm Pride has decided that this year's fundraising will go to Zagreb Pride 2010. Zagreb Pride is a relatively small Pride festival organized annually and regularly since 2002. Although various types of legal protection exists, reality is somewhat different for many LGBTQ persons in Croatia. The Pride Parade gathers approximately 500 participants and is usually carried out under police protection. Despite the legal protection, the attacks and violence against those participating occurs each year. By supporting the Zagreb Pride, we continue to support the Pride festivals in the former Eastern Europe.
In addition to the finacial support we will give Zagreb Pride, we will also give them political support in order to help Zagreb to prepare for next years´ festival. We also need your support! Why not go with us to Zagreb Pride 2011 and show that LGBTQ persons should have equal rights regardless of location?
If you want to contribute now, you can do so by donating an ammount of your choice to International Fund's bank giro account 303-0996. We will be available during the festival, rasing money for the Solidarity Fund in various ways and please contact us if you have any questions.
