Dogtag 2010

Dogtag 2010

Every year, a dogtag is created for Stockholm Pride, an accessory that comes with the purchase of a weekly pass to the festival. This year the choice fell on a shawl.

The shawl is a garment that has been used in many different ways through the years. To this day it offers a variety of suggested uses. Historically, scarves, for example, used to signal sexual preferences, to show which gang they belong to, to veil or to accentuate.

The theme of this year's festival and dogtag is "power". This year's dogtag designer, Sofia Priftis, chose to relate to the theme by using the symbols for male and female and to use these forms aside symbolic power.

– If the symbol function is to represent the mass, what will happen to its meaning when the symbols came in droves? What do they represent then? I also recall the struggle that forms the basis for the authority and rights we have in Sweden today. I've seen it so clearly now that I live in Greece, LGBT-movement in Balkans need us and we need them just as much for not forgetting and not to stop fighting, says Sofia.

Sofia Priftis is a student in architecture and a freelance designer. She currently lives and works in Athens.
