This year's Pride theme
[Theme: Hetero] is the 2009 theme for Stockholm Pride. The theme has its focus on how norms affect the daily lives of HBT persons, what the consequenses are and how they affect society in general.
If a person breaks the unwritten rules that apply about gender and sexual orientation, that person may suddenly be questioned or gawked at. This is not reasonable, and in the extreme it also leads to much more difficult and dangerous situations.
Heteronormativity creates expectations about how a person should behave and be interpreted regarding gender and sexuality. Its limitations can cause the individual to enter a self conflict. More often than others, HBT people must ask themselves whether they should adapt to the norm or break it. It is emotionally costly to always have to make such conciderations.
In order to explain the consequences in an explicit way, Stockholm, Pride will spread stories from the real world that show the situations that can be a large part of everyday life for many HBT persons.
