Stockholm Pride will be available during the entire festival week in one of the most central parks in Stockholm, thanks to a collaboration between Pride Garden and Kungsträdgården. Everyone is welcome to Pride Garden (admission is free of charge) and the opening ceremony of Stockholm Pride.
- By making yourself seen and known in the public space in Kungsträdgården, and give everyone an opportunity to see the opening ceremony for free we want to make ourselves accessible to those curious of our festival, says Claes Nyberg, chairperson of Stockholm Pride.
The official opening ceremony of Stockholm Pride 2009 will be held on the 27th of July, with an exciting and varied program.
From 18.30, actors Iwa Boman and Emil Almén will be entertaining the audience. Bringing together two fine actors from different generations and thus also bringing together their different experiences of gender roles emphasizes the complexity of this year's theme. Here they will share their observations in a humorous as well as challenging way. At 19.00, compere Sanna Bråding will enter the main stage and guide us through the evening's menagerie of artists, consisting of some of the greatest past, present and future names.
Stockholm Pride is traditionally opened by notable opening speakers. This year's speakers are Sandra Dahlén, radio sex educator in P3 Star and author of books "Hetero" and "Sex med mera", and standup comedian Magnus Betnér who will taunt both the heteronorm as the LGBT-movement.
During the evening we will be able to savour this summer's most hyped band, "Detektivbyrån", in a tribute to love when a hetero couple is married on the stage, supervised by Eva Brunne, soon-to-be Sweden's first openly homosexual bishop.
- As a musician, you can not get a more honouring task than playing the wedding waltz. This is their first four minutes as married that we get to share with them, says Martin Molin from Detektivbyrån.
See Marit Bergman's first performance of this year's Pride song, watch musical star Gunilla Backman's and pop artist Darin's tribute to Michael Jackson, and hip-hop duo "Maskinen" perform their latest hits. The comedian Jens Nilsson will play with common prejudices when he interprets gay- and hetero-life.
On stage also The Ciccones, who interpret Madonna's songs, Lill-Babs, the eternal legend, Albin Flinkas, currently performing in "Life of Bellman", dance troupe Urban Angels and a couple of surprise guests.
